Jake and Drew find work with Avada Traffic

Jake and Drew on a dirt roadTwins Jake and Drew were living in a remote rural town, experiencing homelessness and sharing a car on a property over an hour from the nearest atWork Australia office. Struggling to secure ongoing work, they connected with Job Coach Indigo through phone appointments.

Determined to help the twins, Indigo provided a fuel voucher so they could attend the Batemans Bay First Steps to Success event. There, Employer Engagement Consultant Joanne introduced them to Ben from Avada Traffic, who understood their circumstances and offered roles located just 15–20 minutes from where they were living.

With support from Joanne and Indigo, the brothers completed their applications and received funding for the required tickets, workwear, and radios. After starting their shifts, they were connected with In‑Work Support Coach Charly, and their team leader praised their strong work ethic and positive attitude. Their new jobs quickly transformed their lives—Drew bought his first car with his initial pay, and the brothers are now living in a caravan on their land while building a sustainable-material home. They are proud, grateful, and thriving with the support of Avada Traffic and atWork Australia.

Anita is loving self-employment and the flexibility to spend time with her family

Photo of AnitaFor Inclusive Employment Australia client Anita, the future will be brighter now that she has found meaningful work. As a single mother determined to provide for her daughter, she faced major setbacks due to a past back injury, resulting in a long period of unemployment and declining confidence. Wanting to return to work, she reached out to atWork Australia for support. With her Job Coach Georgia, she initially pursued forklift roles aligned with her qualifications, but repeated knockbacks left her discouraged. Georgia encouraged her to reassess her strengths and explore new pathways, which prompted Anita to share her passion for making flower arrangements.

With renewed motivation and tailored support, Anita relaunched her flower arrangement business and is now thriving in self‑employment. atWork Australia helped her build communication and financial management skills and provided funding for essential work items to get her business off the ground. “I am very pleased and thankful! I’ve learnt and continue to learn so much about self-employment. It allows me to work from home and be able to spend time doing what I love, while spending time with my family,” Anita said.

Janine finds meaningful employment with Woolworths

atWork Australia client Janine lives with Friedreich’s Ataxia, and in the last 10 years, it has meant she needs to rely on a wheelchair to get around. She has been in employment with atWork Australia for a few years, and when Woolworths announced they were developing new accessible checkouts, Janine got a call from her Job Coach Rosa, asking if she was interested in being part of the testing. Janine agreed and from there she was able to gain employment with Woolworths.

Watch the video below to find out more about Janine’s journey and how, despite her unique challenges, she was able to find the right employer.
